The Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) is sincerely grateful to
FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program for awarding $49,621.00
to afford the department the ability to purchase 8 SCBA's compliant to
the NFPA 1981 Standard 2007 Edition ( Air Pack NxG7 SCBA, Dual EBSS, Pak
Tracker, CBRN ) Assembled brackets with straps, a base operational
bottle with 45 minutes of air supply and an integrated PASS device along
with a spare bottle. A mask, face mask bag and voice amplifier
assembly for each apparatus position. An amplifier bracket, and a
quarter turn cartridge assembly for each mask and P100 filters. In
addition, pictured are 2 RIC Packs and 1 Pak Tracker System. The new and safer equipment translates into better performance in providing services to our community. This equipment has allowed the department to incorporate a testing, maintenance and replacement program that more easily fits into the budget constraints which the Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department currently experiences. We are grateful for being chosen in FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Without this assistance our equipment procurement would have been delayed. The partial interoperability and compatibility with our automatic mutual aid response areas would not have been attained without the assistance from this program. This equipment was obtained in May of 2009 and put into service in June of 2009. There was a 1 month training period associated with this along with personal fit testing for all personnel. EMW-2009-FO-01315 NVFD received an additional 8 SCBA units from
FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program awarding $42,000.00
bringing our total to 16 SCBA units on our primary responding vehicles. This award brought us the
ability to achieve interoperability standards with our automatic mutual
aid stations. All 16 units
are now in service with the grant award for SCBA now shown as $91,621. All grant funding was received from US Department
of Homeland Security under the Assistance to Fire Grants Programs under
operations and safety.
EMW-2010-FF-00406 The Nokomis Volunteer Fire
Department proudly announces acceptance of funding in the amount of
$382,580.00 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance
to Firefighters Grant Program SAFER Act Grant in Recruitment and
Retention of 60 firefighters. Grant
monies will assist Nokomis in the training of 15 firefighters per year
for the next 4 years. Over
the 4 year period, Nokomis will create 60 volunteers to assist in first
out response and maintaining station operations.
Each of the 60 graduates will
have Fire and EMS certification to the State of Florida standards.
Plus, our graduates will have additional training as volunteer
advocates in our “community wide” Comprehensive All-Hazards Awareness
Program. The 60 SAFER
graduates will have dual certification in Fire and EMS response and
poses an additional benefit of performing all-hazards awareness in our
public education program.
All students receiving
funding under this grant have a contractual obligation to fulfill all
training, physical and in-kind service requirements (2 Years
Volunteer Service) or all of their funded monies are due by the
person(s) receiving grant compensation.
Note that SAFER funding to Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department Inc.
is open to all citizens in the USA and applicants are guided under the
Standard Operational guidelines of NVFD and requirements in the SAFER
award. All deviations to the
above must receive prior approval from the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security Grants Programs Directorate.
